The Faculty was founded in 1978 as the Faculty of Hydraulic Engineering and Road Construction. In 1998 due to changes in training of specialists and trends of scientific research, it was renamed as the Transport Communications Faculty. The Faculty is headed by Alexey V. Busel, Professor, Doctor of Science (Engineering).
Nowadays the Faculty of Transport Communications trains highly qualified specialists for the road transport sector, including building of roads, airfields, bridges, tunnels, subways, and road-building machines operation.
The Faculty is also involved in retraining engineering personnel of the Republic of Belarus in the fields of construction, maintenance of transport communications.
Highly qualified lecturers, including 8 DScs and 48 PhDs, work at the departments of the Faculty. There are 2,000 students at the Faculty, among them about 1500 study full-time.
Throughout the years of its existence, the Faculty has trained 4 doctors of engineering, 15 PhDs, and more than 6000 professionals for the national economy of the Republic of Belarus. More than 300 engineers were trained for foreign countries (Vietnam, Nepal, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Congo, etc.). Citizens of Sudan, Chad, Syria, Nepal and other countries defended their PhD theses. There are scientific schools, where master’s and PhD students are trained under the supervision of the famous scientists, professors I. Leonovich, Ya. Kovalev, A. Vavilov, V. Verenko. Postgraduates are trained both full-time and by correspondence. The staff of the Faculty takes an active part in various international and republican conferences. The lecturers publish articles in journals, monographs and textbooks.
The training process at the Faculty is described in "Roads of the Commonwealth of Independent States", the journal under the Intergovernmental Council of Roads.
The Students Trade Union Bureau of the Faculty is one of the best at the Belarusian National Technical University. The leader of the Bureau, Irina Martinkevich, represented Minsk students at the Republican contest "Student of the Year 2013" and won in the nomination "Student of the Year ONLINE". Artem Yushkevich, the FTC graduate, received the Commendation from the President of the Republic of Belarus for his excellent academic achievements, exemplary behavior and active participation in public life. The students’ creative development is of great importance for the Faculty. The Freshman’s Day and other activities are held on a regular basis.
Much attention is given to sport activities. Candidates and masters of sports as well as the winners of various national and international competitions study at the Faculty: Viktor Raytsyn, Vladislav Terpitsky, Alexey Yugrardis - judo; Artem Vlasovets – motorcycle football; Vladimir Shamyna – swimming; Artem Trasuk - rowing; Tatiana Kopachel – basketball. A futsal pitch and a basketball court are located near the dormitory. The students also have gyms at their disposal. The Faculty holds annual tournaments in futsal, table tennis, and basketball. The Faculty team takes part in the Amateur Volleyball League.
