The main specialities of the Faculty originated from the foundation of the Belarussian State Polytechnic Institute on December 10, 1920.
Peat-Meliorative Faculty was opened on July 1, 1933 at the BPI. The Dean of the Faculty was Mikhail V. Doroshevich.
On March 12, 1949, the Ministry of Higher and Specialized Secondary Education of the USSR made a decision to separate the Peat Faculty out of the Hydrotechnical Faculty with the following specialities: Development of Peat Deposits and Peat Machines. Peat Faculty was renamed Mining-Mechanical Faculty on May 17, 1973.
The Faculty of Natural Resources and Ecology was established at the BNTU in March 2002. Professor Boris A. Bogatov was appointed the Dean of the Faculty. In 2005 the Faculty was headed by Pyotr V. Tsybulenko. The Faculty of Natural Resources and Ecology was transformed into Mining Engineering and Engineering Ecology Faculty on February 15, 2007.
Founded in 2002, the Mining and Environmental Engineering Faculty is the center for training and advanced training in extraction, processing, rational use of natural resources, environmental protection, and ecological management.
Highly qualified members of the academic staff, including 10 Doctors of Science and 28 PhDs, provide training to the future engineers. More than 1000 students are enrolled in the Faculty training programs; 751 students study full-time.
The Faculty Board of Trustees actively participates in the foundation of resource base. It is headed by Pyotr A. Kalugin, Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, PhD in Engineering.
The graduates receive job assignments to JSC “Belaruskali”, the institutions of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the enterprises of “Beltopgaz”, “Beltransgaz”, “Belneftekhim”, RUE “Mikashevichi”, PA “Belaz”, RUE “Dolomit”, the enterprises of the Ministry of construction materials and architecture, research and development institutes.
